Anchor manufactures unusual pennant wires

With over 16 years of experience in the global market, Anchor Industries is a leading supplier of products and services to the offshore and marine mooring industries as well as the lifting and rigging industry. The company recently completed a project that entailed the manufacturing of 4 x 76mm offshore pennant wires.

After lengthy consultations with the client, a major offshore oil company and GN Rope Fittings, the socket manufacturer, it was decided that CR sockets would be used for the one end and CR Swivel sockets for the other end of the wire.

“The CR Swivel socket integrates the swivel and socket into one unit, thus reducing the number of components required during the final assembly. The main reason for the CR Swivel socket being used for this application was to reduce possible torque build-up within the steel wire rope after installation,” explained David Pratt, Cape Town Branch Manager.

CR Sockets are the best possible connection between a chain and a steel wire rope system. Designed for hazardous offshore environments, it is suitable for working under maximum load limits when submerged.

The challenge in completing this socketing project was that each CR swivel socket weighed 271kg. However, with Anchor Industries’ experienced staff and socketing facilities, the job was completed in only two days. The pennant wires were therefore delivered to the client on time and ready for use.

As a leader in the offshore mooring industry, tasked to manufacture this pennant wire with its unique and specific requirements, Anchor Industries have thus also compiled new work instructions and procedures to ensure the safe use of the products.
